PRP: The Natural Dermal Fillers

The popularity of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is fast growing due to its natural ability to repair and rejuvenate the skin. This natural treatment is quite popular, especially in the field of aesthetics.

What is PRP?

PRP involves the preparation of platelets in concentrated blood plasma with regenerative growth properties that can stimulate skin healing, collagen production, and other important types of proteins that support the skin.

PRP treatment has been around for decades and it was mostly used for wound and soft tissue healing. In recent years, however, clinical evidence demonstrated the regenerative properties of PRP can help in the treatment of minimizing fine wrinkles, pores, volume loss, and general skin rejuvenation.

While there are several filler products in the market, PRP offers an organic alternative to other dermal fillers. This is because it uses the patient’s blood to rejuvenate their appearance and also alleviates the risk of skin sensitivity or allergic reaction all with a faster healing rate.

Benefits of PRP as a natural dermal filler

PRP can be used to improve the appearance of the following:

  • Forehead lines
  • Glabellar lines, also known as the number 11 lines between the brows
  • Crow’s feet, also known as periorbital lines
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Smile lines
  • Vertical lip lines or lipstick lines
  • Marionette lines
  • Acne scars

Pre-care guidelines for PRP treatment

Any cosmetic procedure should be done by a licensed practitioner such as a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon or a Dermatologist. This is because they are trained to do an in-depth analysis of the individual including checking their medical history to see if they are the ideal candidate for the procedure.

During the consultation with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon at Al Shunnar Plastic Surgery Dubai, you will discuss your concerns and goals with one of our practitioners before undergoing the necessary blood tests. If you meet the criteria of a good candidate for PRP injections you will be given certain pre-care guidelines such as avoiding blood-thinning medications like aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen, and herbal supplements at least a week before the treatment. Such medications can increase risks during and after the treatment such as bleeding.

The treatment

At the start of the procedure blood is drawn –usually from the arm- and spun down to isolate and concentrate platelets. The result is a platelet-rich solution which is then applied to the skin. It can be injected into the treatment area with or without the traditional soft tissue fillers.

Recovery and Results

The treatment process is quick and takes about 30 minutes to complete. After the treatment, you may experience temporary bruising, tingling, tenderness, pressure, or fullness at the injection sites. Your practitioner will recommend the type of moisturizer to use as you are recovering based on any additional procedure that you have done alongside PRP. The recovery will also be based on these.

The treatment can be repeated every four weeks to maintain the results.
